Like I told you. I got a deal with Kaplan. |
|
He can write these damn books about me, but he’s got to give some of the dough he makes to orphans and Boy Scouts. That’s ok with me.
But first he’s got to get paid for selling some books.
I’m discovering that this publishing game is nothing more than another racket. Everybody wants a piece of the pie. The Publisher who prints the books gets his cut. The distributor who takes the books from the printer is nothing but a middleman. He gets a cut for taking the books to places like Amazon and Borders. And Amazon and Borders all get a cut for putting the books on sale.
At the end of the day you know what Kaplan gets? He gets the short end of that stick. He’s a sucker if you ask me.
So, anyway, the deal now is that the guy who prints the book didn’t print enough (I think he thought nobody wanted to read anything Kaplan wrote and I can’t really blame him), and so the guy who distributes the books ran out of books, and so the guy who sells the books, Amazon and Borders and those guys, don’t even have any copies of House Of Ghosts to sell today. What the hell is that all about? Kaplan’s got more books coming, he swears to me. But I think those orphans and Boy Scouts better plan for a long hard winter if this is the way the book racket works. This stinks.
